All Is In Readiness

Friday, 14 March 2014

With just two full days to go we've cleared the decks and are in the final stages of preparation. We've had our flue injections, topped up our prescription medication and made arrangement to hold our mail until we return. We've not tried that previously and we're keen to see how it works out. Not that there's been a problem in the past but we wanted to reduce the burden on our old mate.

I've made a start at selecting my clothes and subjecting my choices to the scrutiny of the 'style queen', I must be getting better or she's given up but most things were approved!!

Next task is to sort out the cables and chargers for the host of electronic devices. I counted them up and was surprised -

  • 2 x Kindles (hers and mine)
  • 2 x Camera Battery Chargers (hers and mine)
  • 1 x iPad (hers)
  • 1 x iPhone (hers)
  • 1 x Android Smart Phone (mine), and
  • 1 x Toshiba Laptop (mine).

All looks very evenly shared.

Printed off some extra luggage tags and brought the cases in from the shed. I plan to pack tomorrow and then check again on Sunday, after that anything I've forgotten I'll have to buy en route.

The cyclone activity around Northern Queensland appears to be diminishing but there's every possibility that new storms will develop. The storms don't worry me as I have complete trust in the seaworthiness of the ship and the competence of the Captain and crew. Smooth seas make for a more pleasant if less exciting cruise.

Will add more once we're aboard.

Countdown Continues

Tuesday, 11 March 2014

Just five days to go before we set off on our next journey. All necessary notifications have been made and travel arrangements re-checked and verified.

I'm trying to reduce the contents of the fridge so that it can be turned off for the duration of our time away. Over the next few days we'll sort out what to pack for the trip. Shouldn't be too difficult as we'll be in tropical or semi-tropical environments until we arrive back in Sydney.

My main concern at the moment is that there is the expectation of fog each morning and this will slow down the first leg of the trip - from home to Canberra. One of the benefits of travelling with Murray's Buses from Canberra is that they have departures every hour, so if we miss one there's another within the hour and the tickets are flexible.

This morning's sunrise heralded the start of what looks like a perfect day.

Will post again when we're on our way.
